The inspiration behind Zoo New York at Thompson Park
The Zoo was started by a group of school children in 1921 who wanted to see a Zoo in Thompson Park.
In 1991, the new zoo opened with a renewed focus on native wildlife, both species currently residing in New York State and those no longer found here.
What Zoo New York offers
Zoo New York, by example and action, provides knowledge and motivation to conserve nature in New York State through fun, science-based, and natural cultural experiences.
They have a variety of activities and animal habitats for the family to enjoy, including New York’s only wolverine.
Zoo New York is open daily from May through October from 10 AM until 5 PM, and from November through April on weekends from 11 AM to 3 PM.
There are different tiers of membership for those wishing to visit frequently and receive discounts and reciprocal admission to other facilities.
They host a number of special events and offer discounts for military and seniors.
